About
Merrill Feitell earned her MFA in fiction writing at Columbia University and her first book, Here Beneath Low-Flying Planes, won the Iowa Short Fiction Award. Her short stories have appeared in such publications as American Short Fiction, Virginia Quarterly Review, Hamptons Shorts, and Best New American Voices, earning her fellowships from MacDowell, Yaddo, VCCA, and Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference.
With lifelong interests in photography and book arts, she began integrating photography and form-play into her written work. Her text-image narratives have appeared in McSweeney’s Quarterly, Electric Literature, Switchyard, and Los Angeles Review of Books.
Bringing short-story expertise to book arts, she also conceives of and creates story-specific book-forms, writing and hand-making sculptural, interactive book-objects, offering readers a sensory and experiential understanding of stories along with an intellectual one.
